POLICHNITOS
Polichnitos is the biggest village in population
(3.162 people) and the administrative centre of the
Municipality. As you approach the village you can
see a military airstrip that allegedly has the
perfect take off and landing specifications.As you
enter Polichnitos you will be welcomed by the
resident white stork on top of the tall chimney of
the old Olive Press, which has now been converted to
a Conference Centre and the three tiered belfry of
St. George’s Chuch.
Here you can find the Town
Hall, Magistrates Court, Sports Ground, Police
Station, Schools, Museums, Bank, ATM, Chemists,
Dentist, Health Centre, Bus Station, Taxi Rank ,
hardware stores, grocery stores, fishmongers,
butchers, bakery, hairdressers, Beauty Centre,
clothing/shoe stores,

) and of course lots of kafeneia, cafeterias, bars.
A military regiment also has its base here.
The women of Polichnitos have their own Co Operative
Workshop & Shop where they prepare and sell
traditional sweets, cakes, and alcoholic drinks.
Just as you exiting
Polichnitos heading for Vatera, there is a left
turning that will take you to the Thermal Springs of
Polichnitos (www.hotsprings.gr),
one of two springs in Lesvos, which is not costal.
